BREAKING NEWS: Clubhouse funding boost for Bury Town

FINANCIAL BOOST: Bury Town have been given the funding to make urgent clubhouse improvements.

Bury Town FC received a shot in the arm last night after learning that they will receive the necessary funding to renovate their ‘not fit for purpose’ clubhouse.

The Free Press reported earlier this month that despite being informed by the council that they will have to vacate Ram Meadow in the long-term, the Ryman League Division One North club urgently needed to rebuild their run-down facility.

Council papers revealed that half of the money for the £100,000 reconstruction would need to come from council tenants, with a decision due to be made at a St Edmundsbury Borough Council cabinet meeting yesterday evening.

It has now been confirmed that the grant was approved, with the remaining £50,000 being supplied by a club sponsor.

The necessary work is still subject to planning permission, but the latest development means that Bury have moved a step closer to ensuring that they will have a clubhouse that meets Football Association requirements ahead of the 2016-17 season.

* Meanwhile, the club is calling supporters, members and sponsors to a meeting at Ram Meadow tomorrow evening (Thursday, May 26) to hear about plans for the clubhouse and to seek their input.

The meeting will commence at 7pm at the clubhouse.

The club’s chief executive, Michelle Banfield-Curran, said: “As has been reported in the press over the past few weeks, the club are preparing to re-build the clubhouse over the next few months, subject to the funding being in place, and we would like to update supporters on the progress, look for feedback and put together a group of volunteers to help with various jobs that are associated with the project.”

If you require any more information please phone Michelle at the club on 01284 754721, or just turn up on Thursday.
