Bury St Edmunds trio star in Suffolk Girls Under-17s' county championship success
A trio of Bury St Edmunds players helped Suffolk Girls Under-17s teams to worthy victories in this year’s county championship, held at UEA, in Norwich.
Maddie Stuart, Molly Marshall and Jessica Konrath all featured for Suffolk, who won both the main competition and Plate.
In goal, Stuart was competent and watchful, if not too seriously troubled, as the back line of defence was impregnable.
Marshall was outstanding in the left defence department, giving the team an effective springboard from which to launch attacks.
Similarly, down the right hand side, Konrath put in the hard yards to ensure that the team broke down opposition attacks and launched their own from deep in their own half.
In the main competition, Suffolk had four victories, beating Norfolk (5-1), Herts (6-0), Lincs (3-0) and Cambs (2-0), while also drawing with Essex (1-1).
In the Plate tournament, Suffolk ran out winners beating Norfolk 1-0 and drawing with Herts 3-3.
Suffolk coach Mark Surridge said: “Suffolk were the standout team scoring 17 goals on the day, but as well as congratulating an outstanding front line, it is in the few number of goals conceded that shows the foundation of Suffolk’s success.
“These results demonstrate the strength of the junior sections at our Suffolk clubs.”
