Norwich City supporter Ed Seaman excited by the potential of young Republic of Ireland defender Andrew Omobamidele

Despite Tuesday night’s League Cup exit at the hands of Bournemouth, recent visits to Carrow Road have provided a much more enjoyable experience for Norwich City fans.

The 2-0 win against Millwall made it back-to-back Championship wins.

It what was our most complete performance of the season so far – if for no other reason than the fact we kept a clean sheet.

At the heart of our defensive effort was Andrew Omobamidele, who has settled back in seamlessly following a long-term injury which kept him out for much of the Premier League campaign.

I’ve seen Omobamidele described as a Rolls Royce of a centre back on a few occasions, and it is an analogy I like a lot.

The Ireland international makes defending look effortless, barely breaking sweat – akin to a prime Virgil van Dijk.

It’s easy to forget the Omobamidele is just 20 years old, with only around 25 senior appearances to his name. He plays with so much maturity and is more than comfortable, both technically and physically. The latter was certainly put to the test against the direct threat of Gary Rowett’s side.

I don’t think it will be too long until Omibamidele is playing regularly in the Premier League – hopefully for Norwich!

He was rested for the League Cup tie with the Cherries but will certainly come back into the starting XI for tomorrow lunchtime’s trip to Sunderland.

We have shown we have what it takes to win games at Carrow Road, but away from home there are still questions that need to be answered.

The Canaries are still pointless on the road – and in two games haven’t even managed to score from open play.

With Josh Sargent on fire – and both Teemu Pukki and Adam Idah returning to fitness – you can’t help but feel that will change sooner rather than later.

A third straight win would certainly be a statement of intent, as we continue to move up the league table.
