Norwich City column: Kellen Fisher deserves Player of the Season award ahead of Josh Sargent and Borja Sainz

It’s that time of year when thoughts turn towards who will become the next name to be engraved on to the Barry Butler Memorial Trophy.

In truth, after a challenging year, the shortlist for Player of the Season is particularly short. Arguably, the top three picks itself – although I will give a nod to Callum Doyle, who has performed admirably during his loan spell from Manchester City.

So here we go...Third in my rankings is Borja Sainz. After a blistering start to the season, Sainz’s form has certainly tailed off in 2025.

But with four games to go, he remains the Championship’s top scorer with an impressive 17 goals. That feat should not be underestimated.

Had it not been for his ill-discipline, Sainz would probably have won the accolade in my mind, but he should still be proud of his performances over the last nine months.

In second place is…Josh Sargent. What can you say about our number nine that hasn’t already been said? 28 games, 14 goals – easily the best striker in the league.

A player who has comes on leaps and bounds in recent years, and he deserves his big move if/when it arrives this summer. It’s just a shame we haven’t been able to keep him fit for the full season.

And on to the winner. A controversial choice, perhaps, but in my view, no one is more deserving of the trophy than Kellen Fisher.

The 20-year-old has racked up 37 appearances, establishing himself as the club’s first choice right-back.

Despite his age, he has been a beacon of consistency, setting the standard for many of his more senior colleagues.

Of course, like any player of his age, there have been difficult moments, but every time he has bounced back resolutely. And with four assists to his name, he has provided a solid attacking outlet down the right hand side.

Whether fellow Norwich fans agree with me, well it won’t be long until we find out.
