Mildenhall Town’s youth competition hailed ‘great success’ after absence of several years
The return of a youth football tournament at Mildenhall Town Football Club has been branded a ‘great success’.
After an absence of a number of years, The Riverside Stadium played host to hundreds of junior footballers last weekend.
On Saturday it was the turn of the boys as clubs from the local area were represented at under-9, under-10, under-11 and under-12 age groups, while on Sunday the under-9 and under-11 girls took centre stage.
Mildenhall’s youth development manager Trevor Bennett said: “I was very, very pleased with how it went. We had been planning for about six months and so there was some nerves, but it came together without any hiccups.
“Everyone seemed to enjoy it, there was plenty of smiles on faces. It was a great success from that point of view and we hope lots of memories were made.
“We wanted to produce a weekend that worked for everyone and I think we managed it. Now we’ve got the blueprint and we’re looking forward to hosting many more.”
Mildenhall Town are holding an open training session for their new under-9 and under-10 teams, which will be launched this summer ahead of the new season getting under way.
The session, which will take place on the 3G playing surface at Mildenhall Hub between 10am-12pm, is the final chance to register and participate before teams selections.
