Mildenhall dog photographer Nigel Wallace to appear in BBC One series Escape to the Country

A Mildenhall-based dog photographer will feature in tomorrow’s episode of popular BBC One series Escape to the Country.

Nigel Wallace filmed scenes with episode subject Sam Griggs, who will decide over the course of the programme whether she wants to swap her abode in Kent for a move to Suffolk.

The BBC shot the segment over an afternoon last October in Brandon Country Park.

Former Olympic shooter Nigel, who started the business in 2019, said: “It was a bit out of the blue. I had a press article last year which the producers found on their research.

“They asked if I wanted to be on the show. At first I thought it was a wind up!”

Participants in Escape to the Country are weighing up a home move and are shown a choice of new houses by presenters. Each episode also features a segment where participants have a chance to get a feel for an area, and are introduced to a resident who has similar interests. As Sam likes both dogs and taking photos, producers introduced her to Nigel and filmed as he taught her some dog photography basics.

Nigel has been on TV many times in his sports career and says he enjoys being in front of a camera.

“It was a bit surreal to get the phone call,” he said. “But I thought there was no way that I was going to turn it down.

“We had a great time and it will be great publicity for my work.”

Escape to the Country will be on BBC One tomorrow from 3pm.
