Popular Bury St Edmunds hairdresser says goodbye at The Cutting Edge Hair Salon, Stamford Court, after 20 years

A popular hairdresser has thanked customers and staff as she says goodbye to the salon she founded 20 years ago.

Julie Wiseman, 53, worked her last day at The Cutting Edge Hair Salon in Stamford Court, Bury St Edmunds, last Saturday.

Julie founded the salon with her then business partner, Lorraine Anderson, in 2004.

She says she is not quite ready to retire yet, but is keeping her next venture under wraps.

“Lorraine retired in 2017 and my colleague at the salon, Anne, who I have worked with for 38 years in total, even before The Cutting Edge is also retiring,” said Julie.

“I just thought it was time to hand the salon over to someone else, and that’s what I’ve done.

“It’s been a fantastic time over the past 20 years and a lovely lady called Tammy will be taking it over.

“All seven staff are staying on and it will be business as usual.”

Julie founded the salon first in Out Westgate, before moving to Stamford Court after 18 months.

She said: “The basics of hairdressing don’t really change but trends do; so you just have to keep on top of all of that.

“I’ve worked with around 20 staff at the salon over the years.

“Many have stayed a long time and so we are like friends.

“The Covid period was quite tough, but we managed to keep going and are still going strong now.

“A lot of my clients have been with me throughout the 38 years I have been hairdressing.

“I would just like to thank them for their support and loyalty.

“I have just been so lucky to work with such lovely people and it has really never felt like work.”

Julie added: “Tammy, the new owner is great, and will add a new dimension to the salon.

“She does hair extensions, wigs and treatment for hair loss, so it’s a bright new future for The Cutting Edge.

“I’d just like to thank all of the thousands of customers over the years and my lovely staff.

“They have been with me throughout my journey and have just been brilliant.

“Thanks to everyone.”
