Tour of Britain 2024: All the road closures and parking suspensions in towns including Lowestoft, Beccles, Framlingham, Leiston, Kesgrave and Felixstowe

A series of temporary road closures and parking suspensions will be in place across East Suffolk as the Tour of Britain whistles along the Suffolk coast tomorrow.

The final stage of Britain’s premier cycling event will start from Lowestoft’s Promenade at around 10.30am, before weaving through Beccles, Bungay, Halesworth, Framlingham, Saxmundham, Aldeburgh, Thorpeness, Snape, Wickham Market, Kesgrave and Martlesham before the sprint to the finish line in Sea Road, Felixstowe.

For race safety, some roads will need to be shut and parking in some towns and villages suspended.

East Suffolk Council has delivered letters to all houses and business along the route which may be affected, with signs also in place at the sites of on-street restrictions – residents are asked to remove their vehicles before restrictions apply.

Seamus Bennett, the council’s assistant cabinet member and Felixstowe ward councillor, said: “The Tour of Britain Men is the biggest professional cycling race in the country and we have worked hard to secure the return of the event to East Suffolk.

“We do understand that the temporary road closures and parking suspensions are likely to be inconvenient for residents.

“However, these restrictions are for a short time and are essential to ensure the safety of the riders and all those who come out to enjoy this major international sporting event.”

Cllr Bennett thanked residents in advance for their understanding and support.

‘No waiting’ cones will be put in position today.

To reduce inconvenience, restrictions and associated materials will be removed as soon as possible after the race has passed through.

There will also be road closures across the route, which will be from around 15 minutes before the arrival of riders until around 10 minutes after the last cyclist has passed through.

Today and tomorrow, all short-stay car parks in Felixstowe will become long-stay car parks and all-day parking will be available.
