Elderly woman dies after single-vehicle collision in Church Road, Felixstowe, with 18-year-old man arrested
An elderly woman has died following a single-vehicle collision in a town and an 18-year-old man has been arrested.
Emergency services were called shortly after 2.30pm yesterday to reports of a collision between a white Nissan GTR and a pedestrian in Church Road, Felixstowe.
The pedestrian, a woman in her 70s, was taken to Ipswich Hospital by land ambulance for treatment where she died.
The driver of the Nissan, an 18-year-old man, was initially taken to hospital for treatment.
He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink or drugs, aggravated vehicle taking, driving without insurance and failing to stop after a collision.
He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre where he currently remains.
The road was closed while emergency services attended and an investigation took place. The road has now reopened.
Police, ambulance, East Anglian Air Ambulance and a paramedic from Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) all attended the incident.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision and asking any motorists driving in the area at the time of the incident with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle to review the footage.
