First Dates star Fred Sirieix names Suffolk as his go-to destination in VisitBritain's Escape the Everyday campaign

First Dates star Fred Sirieix has named Suffolk as his go-to destination this autumn, having described the county as a 'treat' for tourists.

The Frenchman, who is the maitre d' on Channel 4's First Dates and First Dates Hotel, spent a day in Southwold as part of VisitBritain's Escape the Everyday campaign, which highlights the best places for autumn and winter breaks within the UK.

He described Southwold as 'so perfectly British' and listed fish and chips, ice-creams on the pier and its beautiful surroundings among his favourite things about the seaside town.

He said: "Suffolk is such a treat, especially for foodies and gourmands like me.

"Southwold is so perfectly British. Fish and chips, ice creams on the pier, the chance to get out on the water to catch your dinner and watch the world go by. Magnifique."

He urged tourists to visit Adnams Brewery for the chance to take a tour and make your own gin.

His hotel of choice was The Swan Southwold, where he said visitors would get 'the best service'.
