Felixstowe Town Council elects Cllr David Rowe as its new mayor for the forthcoming year





A town council has elected its new mayor for the forthcoming year.

Labour councillor, David Rowe, was voted by his fellow councillors to serve as the Mayor of Felixstowe.

He has taken over the ceremonial role from Cllr Seamus Bennett after a unanimous vote at the town council’s annual meeting last night.

“It’s a great honour and privilege to serve a mayor of a town that I’ve called home all my life,” said Cllr Rowe, who was born in Trimley and moved to Felixstowe at the age of 16.

“I wish to thank my fellow councillors for giving me this opportunity and I look forward to working with my chosen charities over the next 12 months.”

The new leader he will be supporting Landguard Trust and Breast Friends during his tenure.

In an emotional goodbye, outgoing mayor Cllr Bennett gave his best wishes to Cllr Rowe and his deputy, Cllr Corrine Franklin, for the coming year.

As a mayor, it will be his responsibility to chair the council and represent it at civic events.

Cllr David, who is currently the chair and director of a Felixstowe youth project, Level 2, and a school governor of Kingsfleet Primary School, has been in public service since the 1990s.
