A man has been charged with the 24-year-old murder of Victoria Hall.

Ms Hall, 17 at the time, was last seen alive in the early hours of September 19, 1999, in High Road, Trimley St Mary.

Her body was found in a ditch beside a field in Creeting Lane, Creeting St Peter, five days later, around 25 miles from where she was last seen.

The case was reopened in September 2019 – known as Operation Avon – with a new team of detectives.

The Crown Prosecution Service authorised Suffolk Police to charge Steve Wright, 66, formerly of London Road, Ipswich, with kidnap and murder in connection with the abduction and death of Ms Hall.

Ms Hall left her home on the evening of Saturday, September 18 for a night out with a friend at the former Bandbox night club in Bent Hill, Felixstowe, where they remained until around 1am.

They then went to get some food at Bodrum Grill before beginning the walk back to Trimley St Mary.

The two parted at around 2.20am near the junction of High Road and Faulkeners Way, a short distance from Ms Hall’s home.

When her parents woke up the next morning and discovered she was not home, the police was called and a missing person inquiry launched.

Wright was also charged with one count of attempted murder and kidnap in connection with a separate incident the night before Ms Hall’s disappearance.

A 22-year-old woman reported a man approached and followed her between 3am and 4am on September 18 in High Road East, Felixstowe.

Wright is remanded in custody and is due to appear before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court, in Ipswich, on June 3.
