Warning issued over pollution incident at Port of Felixstowe
A warning has been issued over a pollution incident at a Suffolk port.
East Suffolk Council said it is working with partners to contain the incident, which involves a suspected deposit of soot in the water at the Port of Felixstowe.
Residents and visitors in Felixstowe are being advised to avoid contact with any soot-like residue in the water or on the shore within the port area and to keep dogs on leads.
In a social media post, the council said: “Although any risk to public health is currently considered low, anyone who comes into contact is advised to wash the substance away thoroughly with soap and water.”
Investigations into the cause of the pollution are under way.
