Work to build luxury villas and clubhouse at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club starts

Work to build a new clubhouse and five luxury villas at a historic golf course has begun.

The properties, which will be developed by an Ipswich-based construction firm SEH French, will be built at the Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club.

Representatives from the club joined the firm yesterday to mark the start of the works, which will include a public café and toilets.

The golf clubhouse will cover 1,020sqm of land and will be fitted with solar panels.

The homes will be part of the Balfour Place development and will have sea and golf course views as well as membership to the golf club.

Mick Thomas, chairman of Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club, said: “We are delighted to be building a new state of the art clubhouse here.

“Not only does this provide a fabulous new facility for our members and visitors to the club, but crucially it will preserve the opportunity of golf for future generations.

“We are incredibly proud of our heritage as the fifth oldest club in England, and with nearly 150 years of golf played here, we are now looking forward to having a clubhouse that meets the modern needs of everyone – including the wider community.”

More than 300 lorry loads of spoil will be excavated at the start of the build, which will be reused on the golf course instead of going to a landfill.

The project is expected to be complete by 2026

Simon Girling, director at SEH French, added: “It is an honour for us to work alongside such a historic club on this prestigious project.

“The impressive clubhouse will blend perfectly with the local environment, while the new homes at Balfour Place will be among the most striking properties available on the market.”

The project is expected to be complete by 2026.
