Armed Forces members and their families were treated to some of his top hits at the gig organised by the British Forces Foundation (BFF).

Mark Cann, BFF chief executive, described Ed as an ‘absolute superstar’, willing to give his time for those serving their country despite his busy schedule.

Mr Cann said: “I think it says a lot about him as a person and why he did it. It’s a real mark of respect for the young men and women of the Armed Forces who want to serve.

“He’s not interested in doing it for any political reasons.

“I would say this works not because he’s a superstar. He does it because he’s genuinely a very nice guy.”

Mr Cann said Ed covered ‘a lot of ground’ during his trip, speaking with many people.

Ed also visited the United Nations mission in Nicosia, Mr Cann said.
