Rhian Berry, of Beech Road Saxmundham, pleads guilty to drink driving offences at Suffolk Magistrates’ Court




A 37-year-old woman from Saxmundham has been banned from driving for 18 months after she was found to be twice the legal alcohol limit.

Rhian Berry, of Beech Road in the town, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol at Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Berry was arrested at about 10.30pm on April 11, when a police officer on patrol, in Saxmundham High Street, was passed by a Nissan Qashqai being driven without its lights on.

The officer followed the vehicle, which was being driven erratically, to Beech Road.

After the was stopped, Nissan Qashqai, Berry claimed she had only had one alcoholic drink.

She then failed a roadside breath test, which indicated a reading of 65 micrograms of alcohol.

After her arrest, on suspicion of drink driving, she was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre.

The reading, given by Berry at the investigation centre, was recorded at 60 micrograms, almost twice the legal limit, and she was then charged with drink driving.

On Monday, she was disqualified from driving for 18 months, fined £200 and ordered to pay costs and surcharges of £165.
