Frequent bus user fears loss of morning journeys from Hadleigh to Sudbury could seriously impact people’s working lives
A frequent bus user fears the loss of early morning journeys from Hadleigh to Sudbury could seriously impact people’s working lives, as the service switches to a new operator.
Hedingham & Chambers announced it will begin running bus route 90, taking over from the previous provider, Beestons, as of next Monday.
The bus service travels between the two market towns, via Boxford, from Mondays to Saturdays, except for bank holidays.
However, regular commuters from Hadleigh have raised concerns that the new 90 bus timetable no longer includes the journeys from Magdalen Road at 6.50am and 7.50am.
Instead, the first run of the day will begin from the White Hart in Boxford at 7.30am, missing Hadleigh entirely, which means the earliest departure from Hadleigh is now 10am.
Louise Osborne, a Hadleigh resident who has commuted into Sudbury for 11 years, said she felt let down by the bus companies.
“People in Hadleigh now won’t be able to get to work,” she said.
“There are workers from July 22 who will struggle to adjust, and to make alterations to their workplace hours.
“Over the years, the times have changed so much and made it more difficult, and it’s got to the point where it’s impossible for people living in Hadleigh and working in Sudbury.”
Louise stated that she had contacted Hedingham and Chambers to query the reason for the timetable changes, but had not received a response.
She explained that the only early morning option between Hadleigh and Sudbury would now be during term time, when Beestons runs a service for schoolchildren.
“For me, it’s a case of seeing what happens, but I might have to look for another job,” she added.
“It’s like two buses have been cut. I realise if they couldn’t run both early buses, but why not meet in the middle and start in Hadleigh at 7.15am? It’s only 10 minutes down the road from Boxford.”
SuffolkNews has contacted Hedingham & Chambers for comment.
