Jani Murati, 37, jailed for 10 months for large cannabis production in Hadleigh
A man has been jailed for 10 months after being caught growing 158 cannabis plants worth up to £80,000.
Jani Murati, 37, of no fixed address but from the Ipswich area, was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court on Monday, November 25 for the production of cannabis.
Concerns were raised to police that a property in Ann Beaumont Way, Hadleigh, was being used for the cultivation of cannabis.
On August 19, officers from the Sentinel South team attended the address and caught Murati accessing the property’s loft-space using a ladder.
A search revealed that three of the upstairs rooms had been converted for the production of cannabis and the loft-space had been split into two further growing areas.
In total, 158 cannabis plants were found at different stages of growth, as well as a large sum of cash and a mobile phone which were also seized.
If the plants had been successfully harvested, police believe the production could have yielded between 4.4kg and 13.2kg of cannabis with a potential value estimated between £17,000 and £80,000.
Murati was arrested and later pleaded guilty to production of cannabis at Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on August 20.
Alongside his jail term, the court ordered the destruction of the cannabis and the confiscation of £538 in cash, the mobile phone and the cultivation equipment.
