Former Hadleigh High School pupil Fern given army promotion
A 21-year-old soldier from Suffolk has taken her first step up the Army’s promotion ladder and now feels ready to lead.
Acting Lance Corporal Fern Morrin, who went to Hadleigh High School and lives in the town, said she has worked hard to achieve her promotion from Private to Lance Corpral.
Fern, of Colchester-based 13 Air Assault Support Regiment Royal (13 AASR), is currently leading a team of eight soldiers in Essex.
The Acting Lance Corpral, who has been in the army for three years said: ““I’ve worked hard to get my promotion and this course has been really useful to learn about the new responsibilities I’m going to have.
“The lessons on leadership theory were interesting, learning how to motivate people to do difficult tasks.
“For me, the importance of listening has been the most significant thing I’ve learnt.”
She continued: “As a leader, I will listen more to below me, next to me and above me to understand what we’re supposed to be doing and to look after people so that we can do it.”
By trade Fern is a driver, her role involves taking the wheel of a Man SV lorry to deliver supplies at the right place and the right time to sustain troops in battle.
