Hadleigh’s banking services hub set to launch by summer 2025 to improve cash access in town

The new banking hub serving a Suffolk town will launch next year, as the search continues for the ideal permanent location.

Cash Access UK – a not-for-profit body owned by the UK’s high street banks – confirmed that its new shared banking space is set to open in Hadleigh by July 2025, to improve local access to banking services.

The setting will operate similarly to a traditional banking branch, but with various different banks sharing the venue.

It may initially be based at a temporary site, with the provider stating that it is still looking for premises that will fit their requirements for a permanent hub.

Once in place, the space will provide a counter service for everyday cash transactions, along with a community banker service, enabling customers to speak face-to-face with their own bank or building society.

The banks involved with the operation are Bank of Ireland UK, Barclays, Danske Bank, HSBC, Lloyds, NatWest, Santander, TSB and Virgin Money – with staff from each working different days on a rotating basis.

Announced earlier this year, the hub was recommended after a review of the Hadleigh community’s cash access needs by LINK, the UK’s cash access and ATM network.

The recommendations are made based on factors such as the number of shops in the area, community demographics, and their proximity to other banking services.

LINK has so far recommended more than 140 banking hubs, with Hadleigh the fifth location announced for Suffolk, following requests by local councillor Jane Carruthers and South Suffolk MP James Cartlidge.

“Access to cash and local banking services are still vital for many people in South Suffolk,” said Mr Cartlidge.

“Yes, many now choose to bank online, but cash and other in-person services are still vital for my constituents, particularly small businesses, and more vulnerable citizens.

“It was therefore brilliant news when it was announced earlier this year that Hadleigh would be getting a banking hub.

“The hub will provide key banking services and residents will be able to meet with representatives from the main banks.

“Following a recent meeting with Cash Access UK, I’ve received confirmation that a banking solution will be open by July next year.

“That may be a temporary hub whilst a full-time premises is secured but either way, we will have a banking hub in the town at some point next year. This is a great boost for the town and people of Hadleigh.”
