Car with completely torn tyre seized by police in Sainsbury’s car park in Haverhill

A car in a ‘dangerous’ condition due to a completely torn tyre was seized by police in a supermarket car park.

Officers were in Sainsbury’s car park in Haverhill yesterday dealing with a separate incident when they spotted the vehicle.

A spokesperson said the car had been without insurance since June 2023, its MOT expired in May 2022 and was notified as off road.

They said the driver was issued with a Traffic Offence Report and reported to court for allegedly driving without insurance, no test certificate and using a vehicle in a dangerous condition in the form of a tyre being completely torn.

A report was sent to the DVLA to back-date tax.

The vehicle was also seized.

The spokesperson added: “Genuine mistakes with vehicles being uninsured, especially for this long, are becoming less and less likely.

“Op Tutelage, which is a national Police operation, generates a letter to the registered owner of all vehicles which have been uninsured after a certain period of time advising them the vehicle shows on the Police National Computer (PNC) as being uninsured and the penalty for not being insured.”
