Area Camden plans to open second children’s home in Hamlet Road, Haverhill

A care company is looking to open another children’s home in a residential street.

Area Camden Ltd wants to convert 26 Hamlet Road, in Haverhill, from a residential family home to a children’s home for up to four children in an application to West Suffolk Council.

The firm was granted permission by the authority in September to turn 40 Hamlet Road from residential into a children’s home for up to four children.

This was despite objections from the town council over parking as well as residents over parking, traffic and noise concerns.

A planning statement for the 26 Hamlet Road proposal said it would be registered as an emotional and behavioural home, with extensive consultation with authorities and risk assessments for each child to ensure they integrate with the community.

The home would primarily serve medium to long term placements to minimise disruption to residents, it said.

Four parking spaces would be provided as well as a bin store and cycle storage.

The statement added that before any home can open, it must gain the approval of Ofsted, which will require a local risk assessment.
