Balsham Cricket Club set to play its final match as a lack of players takes its toll

A continuing struggle to find players looks like spelling the end for Balsham Cricket Club.

The club, which is less than ten miles from Haverhill, plays in Cambridgeshire Junior 3 League South, take on Royston 2s this Saturday at Balsham Recreation Ground and it looks 90 per cent sure to be its final match after decades of existence.

Club chairman, Colin Eade, said: “It’s just a lack of youngsters, that’s our biggest issue.

“We just don’t have the youngsters coming through because they are the ones that can play week in week out.

“We are highly unlikely to be running a team (next year).

“I would say its 90 per cent-plus certain.”
