New exhibition at Curwen Print Study Centre in Great Thurlow near Haverhill includes work by Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró
Work by artists of world-renown, including one of the pioneers of pop art, are included in a new exhibition at a gallery near Haverhill.
Curwen Print Study Centre in Bury Road, Great Thurlow is now exhibiting original posters from the 1940s - 1990s by artists including Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Fernand Léger, pop art pioneer Eduardo Paolozzi, Alan Davie, Marc Chagall, Robert Indiana and more.
Lorraine Chitson, centre director, said: “Many of the leading 20th century artists enjoyed designing their own exhibition posters, often in the form of original lithographs printed by some of the great Parisian printmaking ateliers such as the Moulot Frères studio.
“While the poster, by nature, is ephemeral and mint copies are rare, they remain a relatively inexpensive way to buy original prints by artists like Picasso and Matisse.
“The walls are buzzing with colour and vibrancy and deliver an insight into the artist’s choice of graphic design alongside their creativity.”
All works in the exhibition are framed and for sale as are some of Curwen's archive prints.
Called ‘The Art of the Poster’ it is on until November 17, from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
