Haverhill plans to build flats at site of former William Hill in High Street

Flats could be built at the site of a vacant betting shop in Haverhill town centre.

Joel and Julia Chan have submitted an application to West Suffolk Council seeking to turn part of the former William Hill at 47 High Street into three homes.

If approved, the flats would each contain one bedroom and would be located on the building’s first floor.

According to planning documents, the ground floor would remain for commercial use as attempts to lease or sell the building continue.

The basement would be converted into bicycle storage and one car parking space would be added behind the building.

The applicant felt there was ample car parking in the surrounding area.

Suffolk Highways has recommended the planned car space be used for cycle storage due to the nearby bus station and to limit impact on the town centre’s roads.

The building has been vacant since 2021.
