Haverhill man, 24, appears in court over stabbing in Bury St Edmunds




A man formerly of Haverhill has been charged in connection with the stabbing of another man in Bury St Edmunds.

Hari Farlie, 24, has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident.

Farlie, who now lives in Tayfen Road in Bury St Edmunds, was arrested in Haverhill on the evening of Wednesday, November 6 and taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre where he was questioned.

He was remanded in custody and appeared before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court last Friday.

Farlie has been remanded in custody to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on December 6 at 10am.

Previously a 29-year-old man from Haverhill had been arrested in the town on Monday, October 28 on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

He was questioned and subsequently released on bail until Monday, November 25 pending further enquiries.

It brings to six the number of people now arrested in connection with the stabbing in Bury St Edmunds in late October.

Officers were called shortly after 11.35pm on Friday, October 25, following reports that a man had been stabbed during an altercation with a group of four or five males in the car park outside The Moreton Hall pub in Lawson Place.

The victim – who is aged in his 20s - was taken by ambulance to hospital after sustaining life-threatening injuries.

Detectives believe it was a targeted attack.

On the same day that Farlie was arrested, a 29-year-old man, from Braintree, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with the incident.

Three other men were arrested at the end of last month (October) including:

n A 32-year-old man, from Bury St Edmunds, on suspicion of conspiracy to murder on Wednesday, October 30. He was questioned and released on bail until Monday, November 25 pending further enquiries.

On the same day that Farlie was arrested, a 29-year-old man, from Braintree, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with the incident.

n A 24-year-old man, from Bury St Edmunds, on suspicion of conspiracy to murder on Saturday, October 26. He was questioned and released on bail until Monday, November 18 pending further enquiries.

n A 29-year-old man, from Bury St Edmunds, was arrested shortly after the attack, on Saturday 26 October. He was questioned and subsequently released under investigation.
