Haverhill-raised puppeteer Laura Bacon’s character Mavis, the Suffolk Fox and former BBC Radio Suffolk presenter Georgy Jamieson release new podcast
Former BBC Radio Suffolk presenter Georgy Jamieson has brought popular character Mavis, the Suffolk Fox, into the digital age with the launch of a new podcast.
'Georgy and Mavis Talking Squit', sees these two good old Suffolk gals teamed up together again and putting the world to rights.
Mavis is the creation of actress and puppeteer Laura Bacon, who grew up in Haverhill and in 2014 was a semi-finalist on Britain's Got Talent with her American puppet character Patsy May.
Laura was a regular guest on Georgy's Saturday morning show on BBC Radio Suffolk with her creation Mavis and the tales of 'Durin' the Virus' helped a lot of people raise a smile during the pandemic.
Now Georgy and Mavis are back together again 'Talking Squit' with four episodes of their brand new podcast, which they recorded at Haverhill Arts Centre.
“This is a completely new venture for us”, said Georgy. “Mavis was so popular on the show I knew I wanted to do something with her after I left Radio Suffolk in the summer.
“It's been lovely recording and editing audio again and having fun being creative. We make each other laugh so much and we hope we make the listeners laugh too.”
Laura said: “Haverhill Art Centre were so helpful letting us record and film videos for the socials all around the building all day.
“It was lovely to be back there, where I have performed on stage on many occasions including the sold-out 'Everso Lovely Evening with Mavis Show' in 2019 with Georgy.”
And what does Mavis make of all this: 'Well, I didn't even know what a podcast was dears. But once Georgy explained then we were casting our pods all over the place and having ever such a lovely time. That's like the wireless really, only in a pod.”
We're not entirely sure she gets it!
Episodes 1-4 of Georgy and Mavis Talking Squit are available now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, Google Podcasts and Radio Public to listen to for free with more episodes to come before the end of the year, just in time for Christmas.
