First charity walking football tournament in Haverhill proved to be a popular event
The first charity walking football tournament has been deemed a success after it took place at the New Croft in Haverhill on Sunday.
The competition, which attracted eight teams, was organised by Emily Liversidge, funeral co-ordinator at the Haverhill branch of the East of England Co-op Funeral Services in order to raise money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
The competition was won by Cambridge, who beat an East of England Co-op Funeral Services team 1-0 in the final, and although the total raised is not yet confirmed, Emily said the day went very well.
"It was a really good day. Everyone seemed to really enjoy it.
"Everyone was having a laugh and that's what it was all about, just having a laugh and raising some money for charity."
UPS donated trophies and local companies donated raffle prizes for the day, including tickets for the National Trust, Shepreth Wildlife Park, Curve Motion, Framlingham Castle and Anglia Indoor Karting.
The competition was received so positively, added Emily, that it may return as an annual event.
