The nursery section of a Haverhill primary school has open its a new outdoor play area.

Burton End Primary Academy, in School Lane, self funded the project for the new space to enhance their provisions.

Karen Sheargold, head teacher of the school, said: “We are so pleased with the new natural outdoor area, which encourages the children to access the area, whatever the weather.

“It is also such an engaging environment that we hope will help the children become curious and independent learners.”

The area includes a water feature and a mud kitchen and is not the only improvement as there is also an extended indoor area, which will be used for creative learning such as sculpting playdough and baking cakes.

Karen feels that the work done, in the school’s 50th anniversary year, just shows the way the school is continuing to assist its students.

The head teacher said: “With the added improvements, we have all the necessary attributes to help the children thrive and succeed.

“Our nursery is an essential part of our school and has always tried to provide a nurturing environment for them to progress, these new additions have just enforced our ‘in the moment’ approach to learning.”

The nursery is also hosting two information days next month which will include a tour of the school to help potential new pupils prepare for next September.

These will be on November 19, the first session is between 9.30am and 10.30am and the second between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
