Haverhill police officers earn plaudits at Suffolk Constabulary's annual awards night
Haverhill's Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) and three other officers based in the town all won awards at Suffolk Constabulary's Annual Awards ceremony last week.
Dignitaries, including Suffolk High Sheriff George Vestey, Lord Lieutenant Lady Clare Euston and Police and Crime Commissioner Tim Passmore, joined Chief Constable Gareth Wilson for the event, held at Wherstead Park on Wednesday, March 13.
The SNT received the Chief Constable's Certification of Merit - Proud to Serve Suffolk Award for Tackling Crime and Anti-social Behaviour for its work in reducing crimes associated with HMO's (houses of multiple occupancy) by 23 per cent, as featured previously in the Echo.
Locality Inspector for Haverhill and Sudbury, Danny Cooper said: “Recognition was received for the part we played in reducing the impact of crime/asb at multi occupancy addresses in Haverhill.
"This was very much a team effort, working with other agencies through the One Haverhill organisation such as Reach, town/district councils and housing providers.
"As I have said before, this is a positive story but we know there is still lots of work to be done in the town.”
PC Kevin Rolt received The Queen's Long Service and Good Conduct Medal for 20 Years Service; PC Sam Knibbs was awarded the Royal Humane Society Award and PC Mark Ellis, who has now retired, received the Sheepshanks Award, which recognises a member of staff or team who has built community confidence either by a single incident, or through ongoing work to tackle issues and could be achieved through work within the community or by supporting multi-agency work to deal with problems or provide support to the community.
PC Knibbs, along with PC Melissa Steven, had helped a man who had collapsed in Sudbury last March by giving him CPR for ten minutes until an ambulance crew arrived to take over. The man survived.
