Police warning over man asking Haverhill residents if they have jewellery for sale in Tasman Road and Chalkstone Way

Police have issued a warning after a report of a man going door to door in Haverhill asking residents if they have jewellery for sale.

The incident was in the Tasman Road and Chalkstone Way area, between noon and 1.30pm yesterday, when a man visited several properties.

He attempted to persuade an elderly resident to let him into their property to search for jewellery.

The man gained entry into a second property but nothing was stolen.

He was described as being about 5ft 7in, had dark hair, was smartly dressed and was wearing a lanyard with the identification obscured.

A police spokesperson said there was a possibility he was working with another similarly dressed man who had longer hair.

It is not known how they arrived in the area, however it is suspected they parked up and walked through Tasman Road onto Chalkstone Way.

Police have urged residents to never let anyone into their home unless it is a genuine pre-booked appointment.

Officers are keen to speak with anyone in the area who noticed anyone matching this description or vehicles they may have been using.

They also want to hear from anyone who had a visit from someone offering to buy jewellery.
