Power cut for more than 400 Haverhill homes

More than 400 homes have been left without power in a Suffolk town due to a fault to an underground electricity cable.

Around 439 homes in Haverhill have no power at the moment, and the power cut is expected to end between 9.30pm and 10.30pm.

UK Power Networks are investigating and fixing the problem, and will text residents if they think their power should be on.

Generators are being connected to smaller local substations, which means power might be restored sooner than expected.

UK Power Networks became aware of the power cut at 12.11pm, when it managed to switch some customers on.

Engineers were sent to the area and discovered two possible faults.

More engineers arrived at 4.10pm to dig up high voltage cables in the area of one of the faults.

At 4.30pm, power was returned to some homes but 439 were still left without.

Engineers were waiting for temporary generators to arrive at around 5pm.
