Prime Minister enjoys a taste of West Suffolk food

Prime Minister David Cameron sampled the best of West Suffolk’s food and farming at a fair in Parliament.

The event, organised by Bury MP Jo Churchill and West Suffolk MP Matthew Hancock, attracted more than 300 people and featured a range of exhibitors. They included Suffolk Farmhouse Cheeses, Diaper Poultry, Kenton Hall Farm, Greene King, Dalehead Foods, Walsh Mushrooms, Alder Carr Farm and The Friendly Loaf.

Visit Suffolk used the event to launch their new website. Mr Cameron; Liz Truss, secretary of state for environment, food and rural affairs and High Sheriff of Suffolk William Kendall attended.

Mrs Churchill said: “We often don’t realise it but some of the finest and most sustainable foods are sourced from Suffolk, for instance Kenton Hall produce Longhorn beef for the likes of Heston Blumenthal.

“This event was an excellent occasion for our exhibitors, whether a local or global business, to meet and discuss with industry experts and decision-makers about their produce, their environmental impact and how farming and food and drink production can be driven forward.”

Mr Hancock said: “It was great to see different businesses of various sizes from Suffolk using this opportunity to network and talk to a huge range of people including the Prime Minister about their business.”

Ms Truss added that the food and farming industry supports more than 300,000 jobs in the East of England and they want ‘to make the industry a world leader, turbo-charged by the kind of talent, skills and innovation evident in West Suffolk’.
