Students from Place Farm Primary School and Coupals Primary Academy in Haverhill enjoy Stone Age experience

Pupils at Place Farm Primary School and Coupals Primary Academy in Haverhill were treated to an experience that brought Stone Age history to life.

Year 3 students and staff from both schools donned their best pre-historic costumes for the interactive history day run by Portals to The Past and held at Place Farm Primary on Tuesday, December 10.

School children were able to touch and examine many artefacts from the time period — including ancient bones and a real life woolly mammoth tusk.

Mr Jones, a teacher at Coupals Primary, said: “It was great day for the children and they were all so enthusiastic about it.

“The Stone Age is the current unit in our history lessons so its great to actually bring everything they’ve been learning to life with this experience.

“I think there’s only so much the pupils can do in their textbooks so its brilliant to have these more hands-on sessions every now and then.”

Mr Jones said the children already knew a lot of the information about the Stone Age so the history day offered them to a chance to impress the history expert from Portals to The Past with their knowledge.

He added: “We would like to the give a huge thank you to Portals to The Past for an amazing day.

“I know all the kids absolutely loved it.”
