Lorry trailer with tonnes of old tyres found abandoned on A1307 near Haverhill
A council has hit out at a ‘reckless act of environmental vandalism’ after a lorry trailer, laden with tonnes of tyres, was discovered abandoned near Haverhill.
The trailer was found in a lay-by outside the town on the A1307 and contained about seven to eight tonnes of old tyres.
West Suffolk Council said the lorry trailer was removed using specialist recovery at a ‘considerable cost’ to the authority due to its poor and unroadworthy condition.
The tyres had to be unloaded and taken for correct processing.
Cllr David Taylor, cabinet member for operations, said “We are deeply disappointed by this reckless act of environmental vandalism.
“Illegal dumping undermines our collective efforts to maintain clean and healthy communities.
“This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of proper waste disposal practices and the need for community vigilance in combating fly-tipping.
“Together, we can protect our environment and preserve the beauty of our neighbourhoods.”
The council has urged anyone with information about the fly-tipped trailer or those involved to come forward in confidence and assist with the investigation.
