Haverhill students organise charity support at Christmas

Students and staff at Castle Manor Academy showed how much they believed in the season of goodwill by supporting two local good causes just before Christmas.

The Haverhill secondary school, in Eastern Avenue, rallied together to support Haverhill Foodbank and a refugee resettlement programme run by Cambridge City Council.

Students spent the run-up to Christmas organising boxes of hampers.

Two students, Amelia Thomas and Cassandra Barbossa, also led an appeal for presents to give to refugee children.

Cassandra said: “Amelia and I are very proud of what we have accomplished - we are glad that we could bring joy to others less fortunate than us this Christmas.”

Vanessa Whitcombe, headteacher at Castle Manor Academy, said: “This charitable work is in line with the school’s ethos of being proud, kind and hard-working.

“Students demonstrate this every day with their school work and within their local communities.

“We would like to thank staff, students and their families for supporting these important charities.”
