Director of Morgan’s Butchery, near Haverhill, triumphs at the Women in Meat Industry Awards




A director of a family-run butchers near Haverhill has described what winning a national award means to her.

Last Friday, Amy Nicholas, from Morgan’s Butchery at Baythorne Hall, won the meat businesswoman award – independent retailing, at the Women In Meat Industry Awards.

Members of the meat industry gathered at the five-star Royal Lancaster Hotel for the awards, presented by television presenter, broadcaster and tennis star Annabel Croft.

A finalist at the 2023 awards, this time around Amy, of Haverhill, went one better to take the title.

She said: “The Women in the Meat Industry Awards are such a huge event in our calendar and we love going along to celebrate the success of women in an industry traditionally dominated by men.

“To win this award means so much as we are up against huge businesses.

“For our small family business, an award like this really means a lot and to celebrate the win with my parents – it was a very special night for me and for Morgan’s.”

One of Amy’s proposers saidthat she had done so much for Morgan’s and was outstanding in supporting the business while holding down multiple other jobs.

The award organisers said Amywas always looking at new ways to build Morgan’s reputation and was working on a great net-zero plan, while keeping high quality produce available for customers and managing the company’s social media.

Miles Nicholas, Amy’s father, said: “Amy’s out-of-the-box-thinking has increased our footfall and turnover considerably in the time she’s been with us.
