Heart attack survivor from Haverhill proves he is still ready for action
Just 14 months after suffering a heart attack, a Haverhill man is preparing to cycle 54 miles for charity.
Kevin Farlie, of Helions Park Avenue, has set himself the target of raising £1,000 when he takes on the London to Brighton cycle on September 16 in aid of Bike 4 Cancer UK.
Kevin, 55, is well-known to many in Haverhill and the surrounding area for his involvement in the local non-league football scene, most recently managing Steeple Bumpstead for five years, during which time he guided them to a promotion.
However, all of that stopped after he had a heart attack on June 3, 2017, which led to him having to take six months off work - he is a lorry driver - and having two stents put in at Papworth Hospital.
Kevin, who said one artery was completely blocked and the others were 70 per cent and 80 per cent, respectively, blocked, has since taken up cycling to get fitter.
Now he wants to do something to help others.
He said: “I was out cycling and i just fancied doing something.
“There’s got to be something for me to look forward to rather than not, there’s got to be an end product, surely, hence why i just chose that one.
“I would like to hit a grand, if I could do that I would be happy. It’s a grand for a good cause.”
