Ipswich drumming sensation Nandi Bushell to appear in Rebel Girls book series
A young Suffolk drumming sensation will join legends like Dolly Parton, Björk and Joan Jett in a new children's book for girls.
Ipswich's own Nandi Bushell, who has shared the stage with industry giants like the Foo Fighters and Lenny Kravtiz, has been chosen to appear in the latest edition of Rebel Girls.
Despite only being 12 years old, she has taken social media by storm by rocking out with various instruments, including drums, guitar and bass.
The collaboration was announced for the week of International Women's Day.
Originating from a popular book, Rebel Girls produces biographies on women and girls from all over the world.
Also featured in the latest volume are Ella Fitzgerald, Ronnie Spector, Lizzo, and Queen Latifah.
The company behind the series told SuffolkNews the latest edition was curated with Joan Jett, who also wrote the foreword.
In addition to a biography in the book, Nandi also appears on the frontpage, alongside Dolly Parton, Joan Jett and Selena.
Nandi was born in South Africa, but moved to Ipswich aged two.
She posts drumming videos and covers of popular songs to her more than 400,000 YouTube subscribers or one million Instagram followers.
Nandi said: "It's such an unreal honour to be featured in the new Rebel Girls book, and I can't believe I'm on front page with such legends.
"The book also features other females who rock. Thanks for Rebel Girls."
Rebel Girls CEO Jes Wolfe said: "Nandi is a Rebel Girl. She’s confident, passionate, fierce, and authentically herself. She pursues her passion for music relentlessly.
"She plays multiple instruments, is a songwriter and singer, and has performed at the largest of arenas in the UK ... all by the age of 12.
"Nandi is a role model for all girls, and we couldn’t imagine Rebel Girls Rock without her."
