A12 northbound, near Copdock Interchange, Ipswich, closed due overturned fuel tanker

Part of a major road has been closed after a fuel tanker has overturned.

Suffolk Police were called to ‘serious collision’ at the Copdock Interchange – where the A12 meets the A14 – at about 4.30am.

National Highways said the A12 northbound has been closed between junction 32B, Capel St Mary, and junction 55, Copdock, on the A14.

The Copdock roundabout between the A12 and A14 has also been shut, but the A14 remains open.

Emergency services, including five fire crews, National Highways, the Environment Agency and ambulance are at the scene.

Enquires to established whether there has been a fuel spill onto the road continue.

The closures are expected to remain in place for the rest of today, with no estimated time for re-opening.

Drivers have been advised to find alternative routes.
