190 homes to be built off Old Norwich Road, Whitton, near Ipswich after Mid Suffolk District Council grant planning permission

Developer Bellway has secured planning permission to build 190 homes on the 25 acre Old Norwich Road site in Whitton, just outside Ipswich.

Mid Suffolk District Council’s development control committee approved plans for the Ridley's Orchard development, for which work will begin this summer.

Sixty-seven of the two, three and four-bedroom houses will be available for affordable housing, renting, or shared ownership.

Richard Burrows, managing director of Bellway Essex, said an open space and play area would also be created.

"This development," he said, "Will include homes for buyers at every stage of the property ladder, from first-time buyers to growing families and downsizers.

"All homes will be from our flagship Artisan Collection, a new range of house types influenced by decades of customer feedback and combining traditional craftsmanship with the latest construction techniques.

“As well as being within easy reach of Ipswich town centre, Ridley’s Orchard will be just minutes from Junction 53 of the A14, making it an attractive location for people commuting to Colchester and Bury St Edmunds.

“We look forward to starting construction work on site in the summer and to announcing more details about the launch of the first homes later this year.”
