Man left hospitalised with serious injuries after being attacked in Hawthorn Drive, Ipswich




A man has been left in a serious condition in hospital after being assaulted outside a shop in Ipswich.

The incident in which the man was injured took place in Hawthorn Drive, Chantry, at some point between 9.15 and 9:25pm yesterday.

It was reported that two men were involved in a physical altercation outside the East of England Co-op.

The victim, a man aged in his 40s, sustained broken ribs and a serious head injury. He was taken to hospital by ambulance and is currently in a serious, but stable, condition.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene on a bicycle prior to police arrival, in the direction of the roundabout with Aster Road.

He is described as white, believed to be aged in his 30s, with a brown beard.

A police cordon is currently in place whilst enquires continue.

Detectives would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have been driving along Hawthorn Drive at the time and has relevant dash-cam footage.
