Thieves steal charity collection boxes from Audrey’s Café in Northgate Street, Ipswich

The owner of a café in Ipswich town centre is upset after thieves stole two charity collection boxes last month.

Officers were called to reports of a theft at Audrey’s Café, in Northgate Street, at 4.30am on April 28.

The intruders smashed a window of the front door to gain access and left with two charity boxes.

Alison Finch, owner of Audrey’s Café, said: “We were upset and disappointed about the break in, but luckily we were able to open a few hours after it happened.

“They came shortly after 4am and took two charity boxes. Thankfully, everything else was untouched.

“They mostly got away with about £40 in copper coins, but it cost me £1,000 for a quick fix for a new pane of glass.

“I’m not sure what they were hoping to look for in a small café.”

The boxes were collecting donations for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices and The Blind Dog Society.

Anyone with information on the thefts should get in touch with the Ipswich Response Investigation Team, quoting crime reference, 37/22677/25.
