Ipswich Town fans encouraged to ‘turn town blue’ ahead of Huddersfield game this weekend
A call has been made to ‘turn Ipswich blue’ ahead of the Tractor Boys’ decisive final game this weekend.
Ipswich Town Football Club needs one point for promotion to the Premier League next season – and its fate will be decided in the game against Huddersfield on Saturday.
In response, residents, businesses and visitors have been called on to display the club’s blue and white colours across the town in the lead up to the match.
This could involve flying flags, setting up displays or encouraging staff to don club shirts on the day of the match.
Posts circulating on social media have encouraged people to fly the colours with pride.
In addition, Ipswich Central Business Improvement District (BID) is calling on residents to show their support.
Chairman Terry Baxter, a lifelong Blues fan, said it had been an incredible season for Ipswich Town.
He said: “The whole town and wider county can and should be rightly proud of everything that Kieran McKenna and his team has achieved.
“With the potential for back-to-back promotion firmly in our sights, the whole team really are showing a passion and drive that is inspirational.
“Let’s show the team we are behind them by dressing shop windows and shop fronts blue and white, waving flags in support, put up bunting and balloons and of course urging staff to wear the club colours on Saturday.”
This follows Town’s 2-1 victory against Coventry City yesterday.
The BID believed promotion to the Premier League would shine a spotlight on Ipswich as a town.
Mr Baxter said this could offer a huge boost for local businesses.
He added: “Ipswich Central is fully backing the Blues and their bid for promotion to the Premier League as the icing on the cake for a fantastic season - come on you Blues.”
