Ipswich car owner wakes up to the sound of thief smashing vehicle's windows in




An Ipswich car owner was woken up to the sound of their vehicle's windows being smashed open by a thief.

At about 6.40am today Seat car in the town's Alston Road had one of its windows smashed in.

The vehicle's owner was woken up the sound of the breaking glass, and then watched the man reach in and steal a brown leather rucksack from inside.

Suffolk Police have now launched an appeal, and are on the hunt for a man who they have described as white, about 5ft 8 tall, who was wearing a navy or black hoody and jeans. He was seen riding a silver or dark grey bicycle.

A spokesman said: "If you have any information about this crime, please contact Suffolk Police quoting crime reference 37/37846/21."

Officers have also issued crime prevention advice, and have urged vehicle owners to always remove valuable items and make sure their cars are locked.

In advice issued to motorists police said all doors should be locked and windows closed every time you leave your car, even if it's just for a few minutes.

Earlier today police issues separate appeal for information after a BMW was stolen from outside a house in the town.

A grey BMW 330d M Sport was taken from a residential parking area in Blackheath Avenue.
