An Ipswich charity shop is preparing for its grand re-opening this weekend after having been closed for more than five months.

The Emmaus store, in the Sailmakers shopping centre, closed back in March as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The charity, which also has shops in Dales Road, Ipswich, and Felixstowe , is hosting an event on Saturday to welcome customers back to the store, which will be open from 10am until 4pm.

Claire Staddon, Emmaus Suffolk chief executive, and Sean Trueman, Emmaus support worker, are looking forward to the store's reopening (41154769)

Tickets to the re-opening cost £5 and include a goody bag and a voucher to spend in store.

Claire Staddon, chief executive, said: “We have closely followed advice from the Government and Charity Retail Association and have implemented new measures in our Sailmakers shop to ensure it is safe to re-open.

"Our staff have been working hard to ensure that customers and volunteers are kept safe while shopping, therefore we will be allowing four people into the shop at once to maintain low numbers and to ensure optimal social distancing."

She added: "Hand sanitiser points have been installed throughout the shop, as well as markings to direct customers. We’re asking customers to handle items as infrequently as possible, always maintain at least a two-metre distance from others and pay by card, using contactless payments where possible.”

Following the shop's return on Saturday, the Sailmakers store will be open from 10am until 4pm Wednesday to Saturday.
