Riverhills Health Club & Spa in Bramford Road, Ipswich, appoints Colchester-based Cadman Construction to finish repair work
Despite reopening just weeks after being gutted in a devastating blaze, a spa complex in Ipswich still needs significant work to fully repair the damage.
Riverhills Health Club & Spa, in Bramford Road, was heavily damaged when a huge fire ripped through it on June 23.
About a quarter of the premises needed repairs, including the pool hall, a class studio and laundry room – and almost 20 engines attended the scene to tackle the flames.
In the eight weeks following the blaze, extensive work was done to allow members to once again make use of its club area, and Riverhills reopened on August 26.
However, the team’s work is far from finished, and Colchester-based Cadman Construction has been contracted to rebuild the swimming pool area, where the fire first began.
Dave Courteen, the managing director of Riverhills, said that, when complete, the work would once again allow members to enjoy the full list of activities at the spa.
He said: “We are delighted to be in a position where construction work can start and very pleased to be working with Cadman Construction.
“Cadman is a local business with a long history and we are excited to see the completed project.”
It is estimated that the construction work will be complete by the Autumn of 2024.
While Riverhills closed, the spa team made use of Suffolk New College’s facilities to remain open during the summer holidays, after principal Alan Pease offered an olive branch after the fire.
The spa’s gym was also given a £250,000 upgrade.
Stuart Cadman, of Cadman Construction, said he and his team were honoured to have been asked to complete the work.
He added: “At Cadman, we are deeply invested in supporting local communities and businesses, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to do so once again with this project.
“We are confident that, upon completion, Riverhills Health Club and Spa will be restored as a unique facility for both club members and spa guests.”
