Ipswich MP Tom Hunt calls on Government to act on The Mill flats in Foundry Lane

An MP has urged the Government to act on safety issues at a block of flats which have left residents in a ‘cruel form of limbo’.

Concerns have been raised with the apartments at The Mill, in Foundry Lane, Ipswich, due to its flammable cladding and structural issues.

Protests were held by residents in July outside of RSM’s office, the building’s administrator, in Bury St Edmunds.

Ipswich MP Tom Hunt raised the issue in the Commons yesterday, during the topical questions portion of the session.

He said: “Over 200 of my constituents at the Mill development in Ipswich have been living in a cruel form of limbo for over 10 years.

“The building has deep cladding and structural problems — my constituents fear that they could be turfed out of their homes.”

Many residents have also expressed their fears of homelessness if these issues are not resolved.

Mr Hunt prompted the Government to give support to the residents and ‘give them clarity over their future’.

Lee Rowley MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Levelling Up, said the problem was complex and challenging but that finding a way to keep residents safe in their homes was a priority.
