Services between Ipswich and London disrupted as person dies after being hit by train

Trains between Ipswich and London have been disrupted this morning as a person has died after being hit by a train.

Great Anglia has confirmed that services are 'subject to severe delays' due to the incident between Ilford and Romford.

Currently, the 10.02am service from London Liverpool Street to Ipswich, due to arrive at 11.26am, will terminate at Colchester. The 11.52am service from Ipswich to Liverpool Street will begin at Colchester at 12.11pm.

The 10am service between Liverpool Street and Norwich, which was due to stop at Ipswich and Diss, has been cancelled.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Chadwell Heath at 7.18am, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are currently working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A spokesperson for Great Anglia said on Twitter: "Due to a person hit by a train between Ilford and Romford some lines are blocked.

"Services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised. Disruption is expected until further notice."
