Ed Sheeran replaces himself at Number 1 with new song Shivers knocking Bad Habits off the top spot

More news, no ads

Suffolk superstar Ed Sheeran has gone straight to Number 1 with his new single Shivers ending his previous song Bad Habits' 11-week reign at the top spot.

According to the Official Charts Company, Shivers has debuted with 59,000 chart sales to become his 11th Number 1 single.

Sheeran kept off competition from Drake's Girls Want Girls, featuring Lil Baby, which came in at Number 2 this week, while Bad Habits has dropped two places to Number 3.

While Sheeran tweeted to say he had 'never' knocked himself off of the top chart position before, the Official Charts Company said this was technically the second time he had done so, as in January 2018, Perfect was replaced by Eminem's River, which Sheeran featured on.

But it's the first time the star has replaced one of his own songs from the top spot in a solo effort.

On social media, Sheeran said: "I really don't take this for granted this far into my career.

"I’ve never knocked myself off of number one before, this is crazy.

"Thank you for all the love, and Ireland where it’s just gone to #1 too.

"Can’t wait to play all these on tour x"

The Officials Charts Company added: "The last act to replace themselves at Number 1 was Ariana Grande in February 2019, when her single Break Up With Your Girlfriend… I’m Bored dethroned 7 Rings, and the following week 7 Rings regained its position at the top."

It comes after the Framlingham singer-songwriter announced dates for the first leg of his world +-=÷x tour in 2022, with UK locations in London, Manchester, Sunderland, Glasgow and Cardiff, this morning.

This leg of the tour will begin on Thursday, April 28 and end on Friday, September 25.

Ed has not announced, however, where he will be playing in future legs of the tour, or whether he will be visiting Portman Road in Ipswich, where he sponsors Ipswich Town football team.

Tickets for his tour are set to go on sale on September 25. For more details, click here.

His new album = (equals) is set to be released on October 29.
